By brian, on March 1st, 2007% w00t! I finally got the Postfix MTA running on my home network! I was using qmail on my old faithful Slackware 9.0 router, decided against using it again since it was a bit complex for my needs. Postfix is simple, very configurable, and lets me use a MySQL database for all of my virtual e-mail clients!
Unfortunately, like most Linux MTA’s, documentation and tutorials that somebody with no formal knowledge of e-mail servers are a bit hard to find. After reading nearly all of the Postfix docs and several random tutorials and howto’s, I finally got a setup that works perfectly for my needs. And I’ll be adding server-side spam …

By erich, on December 18th, 2006% Finally! 11h has created a professional looking PCB for or current project ‘Party Lights.’ The PCB was fabbed by Gold Phoenix PCB Co.,Ltd through BatchPCB.
The last PCB that we created was a fan controller for Brian’s 240SX. For the fan controller, we used Techniks press-n-peel PCB laser printer transfer sheets. Unfortunately, this method requires LOTS of time and LOTS of patients’. It’s great for students who are low on cash, but have the time and an iron. It’s not really ideal for folks who are looking for something a little longer lasting and nicer looking. Plus, hand drilling the through-hole components or via is a real bother.

By brian, on December 11th, 2006% The Nokia 6133b (T-Mobile branded) phone is probably Nokia’s best series 40 “flip style” phone to date (Disclaimer: I hate flip phones and well likely never own one myself). It essentially has every feature of the Nokia 6230 except most features have been improved in some manner (which makes sense since this is a much newer phone).

By erich, on December 11th, 2006% While on a recent shopping trip at Fry’s in Wilsonville – not Seattle – I decided to purchase a Creative Zen Vision:m.
Unlike the Seattle Fry’s, the Wilsonville store had _every_ media player device in working order. It was great to actually use a product side by side – or at least near by to compare. I was able to compare the Zen Vision:m, Zune, and iPod Video.
The screen clarity, resolution, and brightness of the Zen (or ZVM as it is also known) was far better than the iPod. By the looks of the security devices that Fry’s uses, both the ZVM and iPod have been out on display …

The last time I named a server, I named it with the first three letters of the city where I was living. I moved. Now its kind of silly to call the server by the name of the old city.

By brian, on August 11th, 2006% I’m driving back from the local auto-parts store with some new bottles of oil and a new Fan Clutch when I see the all-to-familiar sight in front of me. As I stop for a red light, I notice a red Chevy pickup making a right-hand turn onto my street in front of me followed by a lowered red Honda Civic. Now, I don’t know what triggered the moment prior to my arrival, but the Chevy took that turn extremely slow, nearly coming to a stop. By erich, on July 2nd, 2006% A while back, after installing Slackware 10, I was complaining to Brian that Slackware has DNS issues. Well, obviously, because I was the only n00b that was having the issue it certainly wasn’t Slackware. Problem is, I had another server in my garage, a FreeBSD system, but it wasn’t having any issues with DNS.
The problem was, whenever Slackware would try to resolve an address, it would resolve to 1.0.0.0. Any program that tried to resolve, except ping, would get a 1.0.0.0 address. Ping, however, would get a proper IP address associated to a domain name and once the domain name had been pinged, the first program that was resolving …
